Quotable: Harriet

Harriet M. Welsch: I want to remember everything. And I want to know everything.
Ole Golly: Well, you must realise, Harriet, knowing everything won't do you a bit of good unless you use it to put beauty in this world. True or false?
Harriet M. Welsch: True.
Ole Golly: Of course it is.

Ole Golly: The time has come, the walrus said...
Harriet M. Welsch: To talk of many things...
Ole Golly: Of shoes and ships and ceiling wax...
Harriet M. Welsch: Of cabbages and kings...
Ole Golly: And why the sea is boiling hot...
Harriet M. Welsch: And whether pigs have wings!
Ole Golly: Do you have any wings?
Harriet M. Welsch: Yeah.
Ole Golly: [starts "spanking" her] Yeah? Let me see 'em!
Harriet M. Welsch: [laughing] Ow! Ow! Child abuse! Child abuse!
Ole Golly: You wanna see child abuse? Take that! And that!

Harriet M. Welsch: I hate money.
Sport: You'd like it a lot more if you didn't have any.

Quotable: Michelle

"It was a breakthrough-type role. I was really honored to be a part of that."

"One: we both dress alike - baggy jeans, shorts. Two: we both love tomato sandwiches. Three: we both like to read and to write. I have a diary and write in bed, I write stories like Harriet did. I'd like to be a writer if I'm not successful as an actress. I'd like to write and direct and star in movies."

"I am naturally curious like Harriet, and I see a lot of myself in her," Michelle said. "But I also learned a lot from the books. I learned about the value of friendship. I learned that a good friend is hard to find and you should never let them go. I also learned that you should always tell the truth, unless it might hurt someone."

"Unfortunately, kids can be very cruel," she says. "But Harriet was just being honest, and they (her friends) invaded her privacy.

"I think the film is honest, too," she says. "This is real life. This is how kids act. It's what happens in school on an everyday basis."

"Some of the kids on "Harriet" and I became good friends, and we keep in touch," Trachtenberg says. "And I love Rosie. She's such a nice down-to-earth lady and very, very sweet."

"We were always singing different tunes on the set. She taught me to sing songs from "Les Miserables." But I didn't need that to stay energized for the work. I'm naturally energized."

Quotable: Others on Michelle

"The casting agent knew of Michelle and we saw her the first day. I loved her right away but the reasoning was, if we found her the first day, what would we find on day 40?"

"She is simply a great actress," said Debby Beece, president of Nickelodeon Movies. "We looked at 350 girls, but there was no question in our minds that Michelle was the right girl for the job."

"Harriet is a well-defined, fully developed character, and we needed a fully developed young girl to play her. We needed someone to cover the range of emotions Harriet has to go through and who could appeal to both boys and girls.

"Michelle comes off as genuine because she really is a genuine kid. Everyone can identify with her."
