Early Review: ABC Family’s The CircuitThe Circuit is an ABC Family original movie, which premiere on June 8 at 8pm.
Since I was able to take an early look at it, I wanted to share some of my
thoughts.
The Story: Well, it’s about stock car racing, a father and daughter estranged
relationship, and a battle of the generations. You have to keep in mind that
this is a family movie and as so it’s not the racing movie you would see in
theaters, but as a TV movie, I found it very entertaining and fun to watch. The
characters and their relationships are established at the beginning of the
movie, we understand that Kylie Shines (Michelle Trachtenberg), doesn’t get
along with her father, Al (Billy Campbell), who sort of left her behind. But
funny enough, Kylie is following in her father’s footsteps by moving up in the
racing world. Of course there is the hot, up and coming racer, Kid Walker, who
spikes up Kylie’s interest, but is he the right person for her? As Kylie moves
up in ranks, her father, Al, has trouble finding representation, which leads to
the battle of the generation, where father and daughter will battle it out on
the tracks. Overall the story, while predictable, is still well developed and
very diverting.
The Cast: Michelle Trachtenberg and Billy Campbell play the parts of daughter
and father. I have been a fan of Billy Campbell ever since I had seen him in the
TV show, Once and Again, so needless to say this was a definite plus for the
movie. Michelle Trachtenberg, I of course know from Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
and I have to say it was fun to see her play a different part. The one negative
thing I will say is that I wish her character had been a bit “tougher” (I’m not
sure if that’s the right word), because she is supposed to be one of the best
race car driver and sometimes I had a hard time believing it. Drew Fuller is
also part of the cast and since I really love him from Army Wives, it was
another plus. Although I will say that I like his character in Army Wives way
better than in The Circuit (you’ll see what I mean when you watch the movie).
Overall: It’s the perfect recipe for a Sunday night movie. I really enjoy
these types of movies because, if well done, they allow me to relax and not
think about anything when watching them. The Circuit was exactly that. I didn’t
see the time go by and felt relaxed by the end.
Don’t forget to watch The Circuit on Sunday, June 8, at 8pm on ABC Family.
