Lifetime Chats with Michelle Trachtenberg
Lifetime: What drew you to your character Carrie in "The Dive From Clausen's
Pier"?
Trachtenberg: I was most attracted to the fact that Carrie is flawed like
everyone else. She's dealing with a number of issues and problems in her early
20s, a critical stage where you have to make decisions that will impact the rest
of your life.
Lifetime: How are you like or not like Carrie?
Trachtenberg: Carrie and I are both very mature people who tackle problems
head-on. Like Carrie, I feel that everyone, no matter how confident, is somewhat
insecure. I like to view myself as a confident person with a whole bunch of
insecurities because that's what makes me real.
Lifetime: What message should viewers take away from this film?
Trachtenberg: That a lot of people get caught up in pleasing others — like
wondering what your mom, boyfriend or sister will think about something you want
to do. I want people to watch this movie and say, "I can make my decisions not
just by myself but literally for myself, to benefit my own life."
Lifetime: Do you think people will find this movie inspiring?
Trachtenberg: I hope female viewers will feel empowered watching it. Despite all
the rough patches that Carrie goes through, she's really a strong woman; I want
women to realize they too can take control of their own lives and destiny.
Lifetime: Would you say you follow your heart more than your head?
Trachtenberg: I definitely follow my heart more than my head and deal with the
repercussions afterward! I'm a very a passionate person — it just comes from the
heart. If you don't follow your heart, you're stuck with a lot of boring black
and white.
Lifetime: Do you have any funny stories from the set?
Trachtenberg: In one scene with Sean Maher, who plays Kilroy, he and I are
eating a Christmas dinner and weren't aware how onion-ridden the green bean
casserole was. We had a make-out scene right afterward and because Sean didn't
have to eat as much as I did, I forced him to take a few bites between takes. If
I had to have crusty onion breath when we kissed, he was going to have the same
heinous breath as well!
Lifetime: What's next for you?
Trachtenberg: I have a bunch of independent movies on my slate, including one
that I am producing. After all, I am a movie girl at heart. And I'm looking
forward to my 20th birthday and getting that "teen" away from the end of my age!
