Michelle Trachtenberg
Buffy's Sister Takes On 'Friends'
March 1, 2002
By Kelly, Entertainment Reporter
Ever heard of the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Yeah. Sure you have. Michelle
Trachtenberg, who plays Buffy's sister, you know her? Sure you do.
Michelle's my new best friend.
Okay, well not really, but we did get to hang out tonight.
At the time, I was working on the TV show Friends and she was one of our special
VIPs. I had the pleasure of taking care of getting her checked in and over to
stage. Can I just say how much I adore this girl? I never ever watch Buffy, but
I have seen her on TV talk shows and always thought she seemed genuinely sweet.
She is indeed sweet, even moreso in person.
Michelle approached me and asked if she was on the VIP list and gave me her
name. She was with two of her friends. I checked her name off my list and
welcomed her, and immediately she was all smiles and very polite. I told her I
would radio over to stage and then make sure she got over there ASAP. Her eyes
lit up and she smiled, "Oh thank you so much!"
Five minutes later, I was still waiting to hear from stage. I told her I was
waiting to hear from them, and she and her friends chatted with me for a while.
Michelle asked me all these questions about the show, it was sooo cute! She was
clearly happy and excited to be at the filming. It struck me as funny at first,
but then I remember that celebrities do like other celebrities. Duh. So she
asked me what time the show usually tapes until, and I told her sometimes as
late as 11pm. I remember this little bit of conversation:
Michelle: Wow! That late, huh? Cool!
Me: Yeah, so I hope you brought your sleeping bags!
Michelle: Oh yes! AND my flannel pajamas!
Me: Oh good, we can have a slumber party.
Michelle: Only if there are cute boys!
Me: And pillow fights!
Michelle: Oh yes!!!
Hi. We're 12.
What a sweet, polite girl. Every time I would answer one of her questions, she
would smile and say thank you. Cuteness.
Oh, another funny thing. Michelle was walking around the check-in area which is
in a parking garage. She was having problems getting reception on her phone, so
she's walking all around, holding her phone out in front of her, walking like a
robot. She saw me giving her a quizzical look, so she started laughing and said
something like, "Oh look at you! You're looking at me like I'm weird! I must
look ridiculous trying to get reception on my phone!!"
Made me giggle and smile. Oh, to be her age again. She is far from acting like a
star, which makes her even more adorable.
After the show, Michelle walked past me and was standing with her two friends,
one of whom was on her cell phone. Michelle looked over her friend's shoulder at
me, and she waved and smiled big. I asked her if she enjoyed the show, and again
her eyes lit up and she said, "Yes I did!! Thanks again!" A few minutes later, I
ended up escorting them off the lot with a smaller group, and it was so cute to
see her walking with her two friends, and they all had their arms linked. Too
cute. I had flashbacks of being in high school. I miss those days sometimes.
[sigh] The three of them were giggling and talking about boys, and then I heard
Michelle say "Michelle Kwan." One of her friends said, "Who's that?" and
Michelle said, "The ice skater!!"
So anyway, my exciting celebrity encounter of the night.
