New Buffy miniseries highlights Dawn's strange past and new demonic terrors - Press Release

Strange memories involving Buffy's recently-discovered younger sister, a spiderweb of deadly secrets about Slayers from the past, and the terrifying introduction of a new caste of demons are the hallmarks of a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic-book miniseries by writers Jim Pascoe and Tom Fassbender starting in July.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #35: False Memories #1 is the first Dark Horse miniseries to delve into the psychologically distorted depths of the Scooby gang's dealings with Dawn, the little "sister" Buffy never knew she had until the pre-teen prima donna showed up in Sunnydale last summer. Everything is a mystery with Dawn -- especially now that Buffy and Giles have figured out that she's not who she believes she is. But how does Buffy tell this sweet kid that she's just a tool in the never-ending battle between good and evil? And why can't Dawn take no for an answer when she asks to join Buffy on patrol? And -- one more thing -- who's the strange Japanese demon lady who's looking to make Dawn her next midnight snack?

"The story started with a simple idea: how could we twist and distort scenes from Buffy's past -- scenes that fans will themselves remember from earlier seasons -- by inserting Dawn into them?," said Tom Fassbender, co-writer of this miniseries. "This kind of psychological turmoil proved fertile ground for introducing a dark, new villain who may or may not have a connection to Buffy's Slayer heritage."

"What we're playing with is the same character chemistry set that keeps viewers glued to the television every Tuesday night," said Fassbender's writing partner, Jim Pascoe. "It's these characters that everyone loves, and it's these characters that will keep you turning the pages."

Fassbender and Pascoe join forces with fan-favorite Buffy artists Cliff Richards and Joe Pimentel to tell this terrifying four-issue tale of suspense and supernatural treachery.
